which language for plug-ins + textbook?

Hi,

This is a silly question, but somebody has to ask it: what language is used to create plug-ins?

I am really tempted to create plug-ins for my own use (and offer them to whoever is interested!), but I have just a self-taught, very limited experience in programming (some limited notions of Action Script 3 for Flash). I am more and more tempted to invest time in learning the programming language which is used to write plug-ins for GEPHI: what language is it? And is there a good textbook (not too complicated, please...) for this language, also introducing the commands specially useful for graph manipulation? (I would like to write plug-ins for display).

Hi,

Gephi plug-ins are written in Java. You'll find many documentation on the web like this site, it's not too complicated to learn compared to many others, and is very common. It doesn't require full programming skills to start doing good things also.

Documentation for Gephi plug-ins is available on the wiki. Please let us know is something is unclear or require more details!
