Working with several networks combined

Hi there!

As a new member of this community i have several questions which might be easy for someone... or not!

Anyways, i scrapped a lot of data using NodeXL for the Facebook pages which follows (liked) other pages. I'm doing analysis of political, media and NGO environment in my country.

I've made several categories and randomly scraped data for 15-20 pages for each category - for example - political parties, media, NGO, independent propaganda, unions, etc.

For each page i have 1 degree and 2 degree network. My plan is to do analysis and visualization for each category separately and than all networks (categories) together.

My questions are:
- when i'm done with visualizing several network categories, how do i import one network to another to get the bigger comprehensive network?

- can Gephi identify duplicated nodes and/or edges or should i revise that before importing process when combining several networks?

- do you have any idea how to identfy which nodes were in political network and which for example media network? This could be done using Partitions in software like Pajek, but the thing is that original media network could contain nodes from political network as well (if there are connections between them). That said, i know that i need to recalculate clusters in newer bigger network, but is there any way to visualise which nodes were in one smaller network (for example media) and which i another smaller one (for example political), even if they have several identical nodes?

- is it possible to do network reduction based on clusters or something similar? I am talking about contextual view. For example i want to reduce one cluster to just one node to better see how this cluster connects to nodes from other clusters?

I just hope you will understand everything hehe...

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
With Gephi 0.9.2 you can import several files and select 'Append to existing workspace' during import report. That should help you with updating data, detecting missing nodes, etc.

I recommend you ask for ideas in the Gephi Facebook group.

Thanks! So basically, Gephi can recognize duplicate nodes and edges?

btw. any ideas which centrality metrics would be the most important for Facebook fan pages network where one page likes another one?
