[SOLVED] So What's Up with Preview?

Hey guys. While I have read through several Q&As about Preview not working, I'm still baffled and wondering if there is a reason why it might not work. I'm trying everything I can think of - creating nodes and edges in the Data Lab, importing spreadsheets, and just opening csv files straight. No preview, no preview, no preview. However, if I open one of the three sample files, like the Les Mis file, it works fine.

I've been using Gephi for a while now and can't recall this happening before. I'm running the newest Beta release and really can't figure out what's going wrong. Need to support a larger project and striving to build solid workflow and data models but this is kicking my butt.

Any ideas or directions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not finding that log file you're asking for. The path as written in your link doesn't exist on my box. I also did a search for *.gephi and I get nothing.

Any other thoughts?

So, not sure what was going on with that install. I uninstalled everything and put on a different VM box and all is well once again. If that happens again I'll let you know and hopefully I can find the log files for you.

Hi

I've got the same problem. OSX Lion, running 0.8 Gephi. My data is all good, generates my Overview graphs fine but Preview just hangs forever.

A solution would be great as Im preparing graph images for Court which is in a weeks time.

Nick, did you try to clean-up your gephi user directory?

I've found that while that does allow me to run again, I'd hardly call that a solution. If I have to go in and clear that out every hour, Gephi isn't a tool I can recommend in my report. It's a great tool otherwise but that would be a show-stopper for this project.

Do you see a true fix for this in the near future?

Sure, that is an extreme case. The preview module has been completely rewritten from one version to another and with had some unexpected issues when people where moving from one version to another. I think that's what happened for Nick (and other folks). We had the plan to rewrite the Preview module for a long time and we finally delivered. The module features didn't change much and shouldn't be too much noticeable for the user but the code has been rewritten from scratch in a modular way, so it allows plug-ins development. In other words this is still new and we are fixing the last issues as we discover them. We are btw grateful for your contribution of making us aware of issues.

Back to your issue, it seems something went wrong opening a project file and is not related to Preview. Did you already created an issue on Github? Thanks.
