Individual node display options

I am looking for different display options for individual nodes. What options are there besides the color and size that I can set at an individual level? I really would like to set something like a shape or border.

The border is available in Preview, but that's all until we have developed a new rendering engine.

Thanks for the quick reply and help. I had seen a few mentions about a new rendering engine, any updates on when this might be coming?

I guess by the end of the year, but I don't know any date.
