Hey everyone;
I wanted to share this dope link I found accidentally the other day http://bit.ly/dP1xB0.
I've been toying with some of the data in Gephi.
However, using this data seems to be a bit tricky. From what I can understand of it, they provided two different types of data sets. So, like the first set of files are all of this new GTSF stuff https://developers.google.com/transit/gtfs/. GTSF is really clean and nice and stuff. But, besides the time tables and GPS points, it doesn't (or i cant find) any personal data; which leads us to the next set. http://www.mta.info/developers/turnstile.html. This data looks real fun, its the archive of each turnstile (that thing you have to pay and walk through to get into the station). It has all the entry and exit points that are time/date coded BUT NOT GEOCODED. I cant seem to find a way to link the two different sets of data (GTSF and non-GTSF). Its also a really bulky file. I've been trying to import the turnstile data in as a CSV, but im thinking that might not be the best way to do so. Any suggestions. I dont yet really understand how XML files work with gephi, because i know GEXF is a XML file, but Gephi wont import regular XML files. So how is one supposed to generate a GEXF file from a CSV?
This data has some interesting potential, however, I am realizing it's a pretty big project. If anyone wants to join me on this endeavor all are welcome. I plan to spend the next few weeks or so just on this, in hopes to make something useful and free and awesome for all NY'ers.
