Re: ForceAtlas publication
Hi, I never took the time to write something about ForceAtlas. I could write a post about it somewhere but I probably won't publish quick enough to be cited. I suggest you cite the work of Andreas Noack. In particular its PHD http://opus.kobv.de/btu/volltexte/2007/404/pdf/ThesisNoack.pdf (look at pa...

Re: Importing from MYSQL
The only point (it may matter) is that the nodes and edges tables don't vary with the context while tables nodesAttributes and edgesAttributes depend on the data... (that's for the "historical" reason!).

Re: Main menu: a new structure?
Your two suggestions are better to me! By the way I still have several comments and finally I'll make my own suggestion, based on yours. - "Social Network" should be an "Import" and not "Open". Every source impossible to write should be "import", like web 2.0 APIs etc. - "File" and "Edit" menu items...

Re: Main menu: a new structure?
I agree on the diagnostic, not on the solution. New users I know told me several times that it would be more logical to have only one "open" menu item. So the straightforward solution is to fuse "open" and "import" processes in a single function "open". Your solution brings more separation, which is...

Re: Layout with variable node size
Oh yes, LinLog is better, more efficient, and more robust in a theoretical perspective than the forceAtlas (I'm its author). Actually, forceAtlas is just our "homebrew" layout, and we adapted it to our needs. Because forceAtlas is "our thing" we implemented a way to avoid nodes overlap (we needed it...

Re: [IMPORTANT] Gephi license: leaving GNU AGPL to BSD?
So, you want to switch to another license because it is supposed to foster more business opportunities. I think we all agree on this point: business opportunities are good for Gephi. So let's address again this question: Why BSD is fostering more business opportunities than xGPL? I agree on the prin...

Re: [IMPORTANT] Gephi license: leaving GNU AGPL to BSD?
I have a personal case of asking money to a big firm for a free software (it's only one example and it happened 5 years ago). I developed a tool for Firefox (Navicrawler) and searched money to keep working on it as a part of my PhD. Orange (formerly France Telecom) agreed to give money to my employe...

Re: [IMPORTANT] Gephi license: leaving GNU AGPL to BSD?
The great idea behind GPL is its "contaminating" property. It clearly fulfills a political goal. The obligation to "free" your code if you benefit from "free" resources is not a sad side effect, it is how the license guarantees its "freedom". May it block you in your projects ? Of course, that's why...
