Re: ForceAtlas publication
Oh, it was not accepted. It had several issues, including a low level of english (we thought it was not required at this stage). We reworked all the text it and fixed the language. We still have to submit it. The last version (only minor references issues) is available here: http://www.medialab.scie...

Re: ForceAtlas publication
I'm glad you asked this question! Because of the holidays, I completely forgot that this summer we finalized the paper about ForceAtlas2 and we submitted it to the IEEE journal "Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics" (TVCG). It's not yet in prepublication (we don't even know if it will...

Re: Parallel Force Atlas
Dear all, The performance gain for the ForceAtlas2 comes a little from its automatic "speed vs. precision" optimization, but it is in majority due to the implementation of a Barnes Hut optimization. If you disable "Approximate Repulsion", ForceAtlas2 will be very close to ForceAtlas. I guess it woul...

Re: help on OpenOrd interpretation
Hi, I don't know how works exactly the OpenOrd layout, but I made ForceAtlas and I'm quite experienced on the question of layouts. I'm giving some insights and I hope they will help you to figure out why there is a difference between OpenOrd and other layouts. A classic force-driven layout follows a...

Re: Best Layout Algorithm for Massive Newtork
Hi, I think ForceAtlas2 might be able to deal with networks of this size but I actually didn't test above 50K nodes. If you tried only ForceAtlas "version 1" it might be a good idea to test the second version (available in Gephi 0.8). By the way, the layout considered as the most adapted to big netw...

Re: Automatic stabilization
To make available the algo in the toolkit, the straightforward solution is to stop after a certain count of steps. I'll probably do that first, since it's trivial, and useful for other purposes.

Re: Automatic stabilization
I made the design choice to let the user decide if he is satisfied.
Actually, there could be different reasons to stop the graph. It is a question of evaluating the quality of the spatialization. Your optimality is one option amongst many, I think.
This is a good question.

Re: Automatic stabilization
Hi, The autostab in the ForceAtlas is a "cooling" applied to nodes that swing. The more a node swings, the more it is "cooled". Cooling is lowering how much displacement is caused by the forces (for this node). It is a quite old mechanic that has been updated in ForceAtlas2. Find below a sample of t...

Re: ForceAtlas publication
I've released the plugin officially. It's available as a plugin in the platform and in Gephi's catalog. The source code is available to download there: http://webatlas.fr/tempshare/20110601_ForceAtlas2_v1.6.zip Unzip it, it's the folder of the Netbeans module. I'll also push it as a branch in Launch...
