I have the latest 0.8.2 snapshot running on Windows with Java 1.8. Thanks for the tip.

Any idea what to do with my Mac users? I tried compiling the 0.8.2 snapshot on OS X with Java 1.8 but was not successful.

I realize this is an old thread but I am responding for posterity.

I had extremely slow performance under OSX with node labels enabled. (On the same machine it runs fine under a Debian VM).

For me, switching the node label font from the default (Arial?) to Consolas drastically sped it up.

I don't know why; it was a flying leap that a monospaced font might be faster but I don't suppose that's the real reason.

Hi Robin,

in the 0.9-SNAPSHOT the data laboratory is not yet fully migrated to the new graph engine and hence is disabled.
If 0.8.2 still works for you, you could check out the recently patched 0.8.2 branch which now should work with JDK8 on linux and windows at least.

Alpha/Beta • Missing Data Laboratory

Running Gephi 0.9 (0.9-20140621.160828-388 to be exact) using Java 1.8. (Also happens using Java 1.7)

The Data Laboratory window does not show up: no columns, no data, nothing. This happens on Les Miserables and on my own datasets. This does not happen using 0.8.2. Not sure if this is a known bug or some specific configuration / compatibility issue. I have reproduced the problem on multiple (Windows) machines.

I would happily keep using 0.8.2 but my school is migrating to Java 8 for our labs so I do not have any choice. I am using Gephi for a course in the Fall so this is making me very nervous.

Any idea when a stable Java 8 compatible version will be released?

I know that 0.9 is still in development but I am trying to use the API directly from Java. My motivation for doing so is known memory leak problems with 0.8.2 that I'm hoping 0.9 has resolved. I have looked around but I have not found any sample code of how to use the new API in 0.9. I have found the javadocs but I'm looking for examples on how to compose the objects needed to render a graph programmatically. The examples for 0.8.2 tend to all throw ClassNotFoundExceptions which makes sense because the GraphAPI was completely removed in favor of GraphStore.

Any pointers to would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Has this been fixed? I have encountered the same problem today. I can't even find the nodes anymore. They have simply vanished. I was grouping using the filter feature to zone in on specific nodes. If there is a solution can you please provide me details as I'm not sure what to do now? Do I have to kill gephi and restart? That would be a major pain. Thank you for your help.

Over 3 yrs later and this bug still exists. Yuk! Without labels everything is fine, but show labels & the CPU goes through the roof! I tried these workarounds, but I don't think they help:
1) decrease the label font size
2) show only edge labels
3) show only node labels

Here is what I am running:
* Mac Mini w/ 4gig of ram
* Latest version of OS X
* Java 1.6 downloaded from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
* Thunderbolt display

Downloaded Gephi 0.8.2 beta for OSX and attempted to open LesMiserables.gexf. The graph portion of the UI becomes unresponsive and the cursor changes to a wait cursor. This condition persists indefinitely. This can be resolved by editing gephi.conf to use the 1.6 JDK.

Hi, lets discuss the new beta tester program on this thread. Beta testers should join the gephi-tests@lists.gephi.org mailing list and fill the questionnaire.

Development versions (Nightly build) can be downloaded here:
* gephi-0.8.2-SNAPSHOT.zip (Windows & Linux)
* gephi-0.8.2-SNAPSHOT.dmg (Mac OS X)

The program will be discussed on the mailing list. Feel free to ask questions there! Also, consult the wiki on how to install the development version of Gephi.

We don't have a date yet for the next Gephi release.

Hi,

The GEXF 1.2draft, released in Dec. 2010, was very stable and I think it's time to release a final version of the specifications.

Currently I see that we miss:
- the support of timestamps
- a simpler way to encode snapshots of evolving networks

Do you see anything else that we should work on?
