It's the letter G for graph plus the symbol Phi (it's in the logo!).

I cannot find anywhere what the word "gephi" means. I assume it is an acronym or abbreviation for something, but it would be nice to know as I know what pajek means as well as UCINET. It would also help me how to pronounce gephi if I knew what the "i" meant, which would be either a long i in English or a long "e." Thank you.

Hi,
Gephi Desktop will not collect any data. The issue part refers to when an exception occurs and you manually send the issue report from the program (a dialog will appear).

Hello,

I am new to Gephi! Please could someone advise me on the information security practices and privacy policy for users of Gephi 0.9.1. The privacy policy is more relevant to website usage and there is one clause on Interactive Product Features that mentions collecting data for troubleshooting/issues, but nothing that clearly expresses that there is no further interference beyond this.

In order to use Gephi, I need to explain to my IT department that the potentially-personally-identifying data I will input is not a risk of being tracked or collected by unwarranted parties.

Thanks for the news. How does this decision affect use of other open source packages? iText5 in particular is AGPL, although the previous version was released under the joint MPL/LGPL, so it's probably possible to modify Gephi to use that version instead.

I agree with Sebastien. If an open source project wants to get wide spread usage and contributions from developers who are being paid to fix things, then yes especially the part about "Keep legal stuff simple. You want to pay developers, not lawyers." becomes the barrier. If I see that a project is AGPL, generally it is simply too much trouble to use for an Internet/consumer business.

Plus, I've had a similar experience with Stallman several years ago. He demanded a 5-page contract be signed by the organization before he would agree to speak, including special "perks", then started an argument with us without even knowing anything about us. The philosophy is interesting, but how much of it just originates from that one personality?
