With layouts designed for undirected graphs, your directed graphs will be treated as if they were undirected.

As I have found out that some layouts are suitable only for undirected graphs (e.g. Fruchterman Reingold).
My question is what happens if I apply a layout for undirected graphs to a directed graph? What does this change in the layout?

Is there any certain rule like if a layout is designed for undirected graphs, it should not be used for directed graphs?

Look forward to getting some answers on this.

Thanks!!

I´m new to Gephi and having troubles using the geo layout and the map of countries layout at the same time. I run the geo layout first and the positioning of the nodes looks fine to me. But when I aply the map of countries layout the nodes are not where they are supposed to be.

I already tried all kind of projections and made sure that I used the same projection for both layouts each time. But still there seems to be a mistake.
My longitude and latitude data has a decimal format e.g. longitude 9.915803500000038 and latitude 51.54128040000001 for Göttingen, Germany. Allthough I double checked that this is the right data, the combination of the two layouts suggests that Göttingen is somewhere in France or Spain.

Is this the right format though? Does anyone have an idea what I´m missing on? I would be very grateful for help.

I got one similar source :

but no idea how to install and work.

Please tell me, if there is any better idea to do that.

I am a PhD student researching the social organisation of a monkey supergroup.
I am trying to visualise a social network where I have the distance between all individuals (nodes).
I have 400 individuals and know the edge weight in distance between all individuals.
It is similar to the flight path network (with distance between airports) (however in those tutorials they use Latitude and Longitude in the node file) where i have:
Source Target Distance
indiv1 indiv2 7
indiv2 indiv3 14
.
.
.

indiv1 indiv400 7000

and the node file is:
ID Label Sex_Category
indiv1 1 AdultMale
indiv2 2 AdultFemale
indiv3 3 Juvenile

If anyone is interested/to avoid confusion, the data was collected by:
Sitting in the forest (usually in the rain:/) and watching a long progression of 400 monkeys move past me in single file, recording the time each one passed me.

I created a matrix of all indiv (1-400indiv) so have the distance (in seconds) between all monkeys
indiv1 indiv2 indiv3 indix4..........
indiv1 0 4 10 40
indiv2 4 0 37 45
indiv3 10 37 0
indiv4 40 45
.
..
...

Would really appreciate some help if anyone can assist!
Best,
Alex

EDIT: Definitely check "approximate repulsion" before you try though. You have a ton of nodes. Then change the approximation value depending on how slow or fast it is.

Hi,
Rendering order cannot be changed, I think it follows the order un which edges have been added to the graph.
Is there a way to change the order in which edges are added to the graphs? :D

Maybe I'll try sorting my excel file the other way then importing it and see if that helps.

EDIT: Didn't work.

Also, what I said before isn't completely true. Some of my smaller edges are above my larger edges, some are below. I'm guessing gephi plots edges in an order related to the highest frequency node perhaps? Starts with the node with the most edges and works it's way out? Maybe... dunno.

(At least for the force directed layouts.)

I'd like to render the thinner edges first and the fatter ones last so that the fat edges are "on top" of the thin edges.

Is there a way to do this?

Click on that.

Then to the right of the words "nodes" and "edges" you see a paint palette, some concentric circles, the letter A, and two "T"s.

Click on the concentric circles.

Then select your frequency column title. Then click apply.

Make sure you check the "adjust by sizes" option in the force atlas settings or you'll get some overlap.
